Running concurrently as the INREB competition, the studio created proposals for a site in Denmark located between a suburban area and town centre. Strong links were required to access the sports facilities north of the town and the need to retain as many mature trees found on site as possible. We referred to the idea of ‘Span’ housing of the 1960s; to place 3 storey blocks in an augmented existing landscape. Urban blocks and spaces are designed for maximum passive solar penetration, and massing to reflect the differing geometries of the surrounding urban grain.        

 

Public realm between the blocks is divided into ribbons of semi-private and private garden space, with swales to deal with drainage and linear parkways to connect with the sports facilities. Wind turbines are proposed, along with other passive and active energy solutions to advance the green agenda.
